Editor's take
Our verdict
KTM's small kids' motocross bike with a 12 inch front wheel, for taller young riders who have outgrown the SX-E 2.
Who it's for
Parents of taller young riders moving up from the SX-E 2; KTM states no age range. It is an off-road motor vehicle, not a bicycle or toy, so it can't be ridden on roads, paths or parks, only on private land with permission or at a club track.
Alternatives
The Husqvarna EE 2.12 and GASGAS MC-E 2.12 share the platform and price, and the CFMOTO CFX-2E is cheaper with a stated battery size.
Strengths
- Rollover sensor and wrist-lanyard kill switch
- Quick-change IP65 battery, 0 to 80% in 35 minutes
- Two seat heights, 536 or 566 mm
- Hub motor with no chain, 27 kg
Drawbacks
- Not registrable: private land or tracks only
- Battery capacity and range aren't stated
- Top speeds for each ride mode aren't given on the KTM page
- Dearer than the CFMOTO CFX-2E, which lists a 1152 Wh battery

Legal status
Where can you ride it?
- Bicycle rules
- Not a bicycle
- Its power and speed are far beyond the 250 W, 25 km/h pedelec limits, so bicycle rules don't apply.
- Road registration
- Off-road only
- Stated by the maker or its Australian distributor. Source: ktm.com.
An unregistered e-moto can only be ridden on private land with the owner's permission, or at a track or park that allows it. Riding one on roads, footpaths, bike paths or parks risks fines, and in some states the bike can be seized.
Note: Kids off-road motocross bike; private land or tracks only, not road registrable.
