Editor's take
Our verdict
Sur-Ron's youth off-road bike, with a quick-swap 1260 Wh battery and a parental remote cut-off, for private land or tracks only.
Who it's for
Parents buying for a young rider within the 60 kg maximum load; Sur-Ron states no age range. It is an off-road motor vehicle, not a bicycle or toy, so it can't be ridden on roads, paths or parks, only on private land with permission or at a club track.
Alternatives
The CFMOTO CFX-5E is slightly cheaper with a larger battery and a stated age guide of 10 and up, and the Sur-Ron Light Bee X is the adult step up.
Strengths
- Parental remote can shut the bike down from up to 300 m
- Magnetic emergency stop, tilt cut-off and wrist-strap cut-off
- Quick-swap 1260 Wh battery, 20 to 80% charge in about 2.5 hours
- Three ride modes plus reverse, with adjustable ride height
Drawbacks
- Not registrable: private land or tracks only
- 55 km/h top speed, with no maker age range or seat height stated
- The claimed 50 km range is at 40 km/h
- Only the yellow colour showed in stock at the retailer

Legal status
Where can you ride it?
- Bicycle rules
- Not a bicycle
- Its power and speed are far beyond the 250 W, 25 km/h pedelec limits, so bicycle rules don't apply.
- Road registration
- Off-road only
- Stated by the maker or its Australian distributor. Source: pedl.com.au.
An unregistered e-moto can only be ridden on private land with the owner's permission, or at a track or park that allows it. Riding one on roads, footpaths, bike paths or parks risks fines, and in some states the bike can be seized.
Note: Sold as a youth off-road motorbike; private land or tracks only, not a bicycle and not registrable.
