Find the right e-bike or e-scooter for you
Answer seven questions and we'll shortlist from the 50 e-bikes and 25 e-scooters we track, using only published specs, size charts, your state's rules and today's prices.
How we pick
Every need must be checkable
- Commute: the maker's claimed range must be at least 1.5× your return trip (2× with steep hills), because claimed ranges are measured in easy conditions. No published range, no pick.
- Carrying up stairs: a published weight of 25 kg or less for e-bikes, 22 kg for e-scooters.
- Fold and carry: folding e-bikes up to 25 kg, or e-scooters up to 18 kg.
- Height: checked against the maker's own size chart. Where a maker doesn't publish one, we say so instead of guessing.
- Budget: today's lowest in-stock price we track, else the maker's RRP.
Legal where you live
- E-bikes we know aren't road-legal as bicycles are never suggested for commuting. In NSW, models on the certified list rank higher.
- No e-scooters in NSW or NT, where private ones can't be ridden in public. In QLD, no e-scooter that can exceed 25 km/h.
- Hills favour e-bikes with 60 Nm or more of torque or a mid-drive motor, and e-scooters rated 500 W or more.
- Commission never affects the order. How we make money
We haven't ridden these models. The shortlist is built from published specs and rules, so test-ride before you buy. Rules by state · Our methodology
